Role purpose

The Education Counsellor (Cebu) plays a crucial role in guiding prospective international students through the complex and often overwhelming process of choosing and applying to study programs in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This role encompasses end-to-end management of the student application journey—from initial counselling to application submission and enrolment confirmation—ensuring that each student receives knowledgeable, empathetic, and ethical advice tailored to their unique aspirations and circumstances.

As a dedicated ambassador of IDP's brand and services, the Counsellor actively promotes the organisation's educational offerings, aligning student goals with suitable institutions and courses. They support business objectives by meeting performance targets, fostering client relationships, and contributing positively to the wider team dynamics. By facilitating seamless communication and access to support services, the Counsellor enhances the overall student experience, reinforcing IDP's reputation as a trusted and professional international education partner.

Key accountabilities

The Education Counsellor is charged with a wide spectrum of responsibilities that centre on providing exemplary support to international students and strengthening partnerships with educational institutions. Key accountabilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive counselling sessions—both virtual and in-person—to assist students in identifying and selecting courses and institutions that align with their academic background, career goals, and personal preferences.
  • Guide students through detailed application processes, including eligibility assessments, admissions requirements, scholarship opportunities, visa applications, and pre-departure briefings, delivering timely and accurate information to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Develop and nurture enduring relationships with students, families, institutional representatives, and colleagues to maintain high professional standards and a supportive, trust-based environment.
  • Leverage Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems effectively for tracking student engagement, managing leads, scheduling follow-ups, and ensuring efficient processing of applications and enrolments.
  • Identify and cultivate new business development opportunities by engaging with prospective schools, universities, corporate bodies, and scholarship providers to expand IDP's market reach and impact.
  • Collaborate proactively with Business Unit and Operations Managers, marketing teams, and partner institutions to plan and execute promotional events, workshops, seminars, and outreach activities aimed at fostering awareness and increasing student participation.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to enquiries via various communication channels, ensuring clarity and responsiveness that align with IDP’s service excellence standards.
  • Act with the highest level of integrity and accountability, demonstrating sound judgement in all dealings and upholding IDP’s values and ethical commitments.
  • Contribute actively to team meetings and knowledge-sharing initiatives, supporting a culture of continuous learning and operational efficiency, including cross-functional collaboration between student placement and English language testing services.
  • Provide ongoing assistance to students post-arrival, coordinating referrals to relevant agencies and university support services as needed, ensuring continuous student welfare and success.

What We're Looking For

  • A Filipino citizen, with eligibility to work legally in the Philippines;
  • Location: Cebu Office
  • Demonstrable experience as an Education Counsellor, ideally focusing on renowned destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or the United Kingdom, with a deep understanding of these countries’ educational landscapes and admission processes.
  • Possessing a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, preferably in education, counselling, international relations, or a related discipline.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international education systems, visa regulations, institution admission protocols, and immigration requirements pertinent to target countries.
  • Proficiency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders including students, parents, institution representatives, and workplace colleagues.
  • A proven track record of achieving individual and team sales targets within a client-focused, target-driven environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and sustain strong relationships that foster trust and facilitate cooperative engagement.
  • Highly organized and adept at managing multiple priorities simultaneously, maintaining attention to detail under pressure, and meeting deadlines in a dynamic work setting.
  • A passion for delivering outstanding customer service, consistently placing student needs at the forefront through empathy, responsiveness, and professionalism.

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications and proficient with CRM systems to manage data, communications, and workflow efficiently.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms that support sales and counselling activities, ensuring seamless student engagement and record-keeping.
  • Previous education counselling experience that demonstrates knowledge of student needs, academic pathways, and international study requirements.
  • Experience living, working, or studying in one or more relevant destination countries is highly advantageous, providing valuable insights and cultural empathy that enhance counselling effectiveness.
